Covert observation took place over a time period of two weeks. I would make note of the goings on during my shifts and a few of the other shifts that I would cover for other people. I primarily work at night, which was where we had decided most of the gap was for the communication methods. As an Operations Assistant at Madison Union Operations I have 5 forms of communication available to me to get in contact with the other employees. During my observational period I noticed that not only myself, but also other employees only use one to two forms, with one of those forms being face to face. I have observed many different Facebook posts asking for shifts to be covered that go unseen by many of the other employees because of the mass amount of people posting in our private Facebook group. Aside from the Facebook I think the only other form of communication used would be texting someone directly because they do not look at the Facebook posts.
I have also experienced receiving emails from the Assistant Event Coordinator with extreme amounts of bolded, underlined, and highlighted text. These emails are supposedly reiterating information that has been given out before the time of the email, however as an employee that doesn’t interact with the day time employees I was unaware of the policies that were put in place prior to this email.
There was also a new form of communication that was added during this time that was not explained and it difficult to use without understanding that point of why it was added.
